Custom design for Heptathlete Hanne Maudens
Custom design: concept and realization
HANN created a custom design ring for heptathlete Hanne Maudens as a remembrance of her participation in the Belgian Olympic team and realizing her Olympic dream in Tokyo 2020 (2021). The design firstly represents the Olympic symbol consisting of five interlaced rings of equal dimensions, widely recognized as the visual ambassador of Olympism. To specifically commemorate Hanne’s attendance at the Tokyo Summer Olympics, two official emblems of the Japanese city are interwoven within the design. Tokyo’s crest emblem (monshō) is a six-rayed stylized sun with a dot in the center, accentuated by a black onyx gemstone, and portrayed within the middle ring of the design. A stylized Ginkgo biloba leaf constitutes Tokyo’s “symbol” (shinboru), whereof its contours are subtlety incorporated within one of the bottom Olympic circles.
Mental wellness in the sports world
Beyond celebrating Hanne’s sport trajectory and achievements, the custom design will serve as a daily reminder of her perseverance and tenacity to pursue her ambitions throughout challenging times. Lack of financial and mental support often complicated the journey, as Hanne states. Because of her personal pathway, she acknowledges an increased recognition of the importance of mental health among top sportsmen, athletes and related fields. Luckily awareness respecting a healthy mindset is increasing steadily and globally. Hanne supports mental wellness in the sports world, in accordance with HANN's values concerning physical, emotional and mental well-being (read more here).
